West Coast Blinds | Milnerton to Melkbos, Supply & Installation

Window Blinds on the West Coast and in Milnerton

Salt air is the single variable that decides a blind on this side of the metro. It corrodes cheap hardware within a few seasons, and the humidity that comes with it swells real timber. Window Blinds Cape Town supplies, installs and repairs made-to-measure blinds from Milnerton up the coast — free on-site measure, no call-out charge. Call 081 411 8471.

Wide sea-facing spans are usually two linked blinds rather than one oversized one.

Three Things the Coast Changes

1. Hardware, not fabric, is what fails first

Salt attacks the metal parts — the clutch, the chain, the brackets and the screws — long before it touches the fabric. A blind that has failed on the West Coast has almost always failed at the mechanism. We fit rust-resistant fittings as standard here, and we would rather replace a clutch than a whole blind: see blind repairs and parts and spares.

2. Real timber is the wrong material here

Coastal humidity gets into basswood slats and they swell, bow and stop sitting flat. Faux-wood gives the same look in PVC and does not care about the moisture, and aluminium venetians and PVC verticals are simply immune to it. This is the one recommendation we make differently on the coast than we do inland — the comparison is in blind fabrics compared.

3. The south-easter makes a loose blind noisy

An open window with a chain-operated roller blind in front of it will slap against the reveal in a Blouberg south-easter, and that is what eventually pulls the bracket out of the wall. The fix is a cassette headrail with side channels, which holds the fabric at both edges. Worth specifying at the measure if you actually open your windows in summer.

Wide, sea-facing glass

Homes built for the view have spans that exceed what a single roller tube will carry without deflecting in the middle. Past roughly 2.4 m we split the span into two matching blinds on one bracket line, or use vertical blinds, which handle width better than any other type. More on this in blinds for large windows.

West Coast Areas With Their Own Page

We have a dedicated page for Milnerton, Table View, Bloubergstrand, Century City, Montague Gardens and Bothasig. Everything else up the coast is on the list below, on the same terms.

Every area we measure and install in

If your area is on this list, the measure and quote is free and there is no call-out charge. Coastal addresses get rust-resistant hardware as standard.

Places people mix up

Table View, Blouberg and Bloubergstrand are three different places, not one area, and the salt and wind exposure differs sharply between them — which changes the hardware we fit. Atlantis and Mamre are about twenty minutes further north again.

Suburbs and neighbourhoods

Salt air is the deciding variable. We fit rust-resistant hardware as standard and steer these homes to aluminium, faux-wood or PVC rather than real timber.

Estates, golf and country villages

West Coast Blinds – FAQs

Which blinds last longest near the sea?

Aluminium venetians, PVC verticals and faux-wood, all on rust-resistant hardware. Avoid real timber slats and avoid the cheapest mechanisms — on the coast the mechanism is what goes.

Will the wind damage a roller blind?

Only if it is left free to swing in an open window. A cassette headrail with side channels holds the fabric at both edges and solves it. Tell us at the measure if the room is exposed.

Can you cover a full-width sea-facing window with one blind?

Past about 2.4 m a single roller tube starts to deflect in the middle. We normally split it into two matching blinds on the same bracket line so it still reads as one window.

Do you cover Parklands, Sunningdale and West Beach?

Yes, along with the rest of the list above. Free measure and quote, no call-out charge.
