Basswood, Fauxwood and White Wooden Window Blinds
Basswood is real timber: lighter per slat, warmer in colour, and it will swell if it gets repeatedly wet. Faux-wood is a PVC or composite slat moulded to look like timber, heavier for the same width and unaffected by moisture, which is why it is specified for kitchens and bathrooms where basswood is not.
Slat Width
50 mm basswood is the standard timber slat, with fauxwood moulded to the same width, and 63 mm is the wide-slat option for large windows. A wider slat gives a clearer view when open and a taller stack when raised: at a 1,500 mm drop a 50 mm slat stacks to roughly 180 mm. See slat widths compared.
White Wooden Blinds
White is the most-requested finish because it disappears against a white reveal and reads as part of the window rather than as a fitting. On real basswood a painted white finish is a coating and can chip on the slat edge over time; on faux-wood the colour runs through the slat, so an edge knock does not show.

Timber and faux-wood venetians come in 50 mm and 63 mm slats. The wider slat means about 20% fewer slats across the same drop, and a slightly deeper stack when the blind is raised.

Weight is the other specification that matters on a wide window, because it drives cord and mechanism wear. Basswood is noticeably lighter than a PVC faux-wood slat of the same size, so on faux-wood spans over about 2,000 mm we usually split the window into two blinds. Both materials take the same slat widths and the same ladder tapes.
