The fabric changes by room, the blind does not. Kitchens take a wipeable PVC-coated or sunscreen fabric because cooking grease settles on anything porous. Bedrooms take a blockout fabric at R550 to R1,000 per square metre, which is the only roller fabric that gives true darkness. Living rooms usually take a sunscreen at 3% to 5% openness, which holds the view while cutting glare. Bathrooms take PVC rather than woven fabric, because a woven blind in a wet room eventually stains.
Blockout Roller Blinds
A blockout roller is a single opaque sheet with a coated back that stops light passing through the fabric itself. Light still enters around the edges of any roller blind, so a blockout roller in a bedroom is normally fitted outside the reveal, overlapping the opening, rather than inside it.
