The Sir Lowry’s Pass Wind
The Helderberg basin funnels the summer south-easter down off the pass and across toward Gordon’s Bay. It is stronger and more consistent than in the Northern Suburbs, and it arrives in the afternoon. For blinds that matters in two ways: an open window with a free-hanging roller in front of it will slap against the reveal until something gives, and the wind carries salt further inland here than the distance from the water would suggest.

Estates, and Why They Come Up First Here
The Helderberg has more security and golf estates than any other area we cover. Most run architectural or aesthetic guidelines, and where those exist they almost always cover what the windows look like from outside — typically a requirement for a white or neutral external face. Blinds are made to order, so it is worth getting that wording from the estate or the HOA before you choose a colour rather than after the blind has been manufactured. Largely out of the salt. Real timber and standard hardware are fine, and the brief is usually afternoon heat rather than corrosion.
Strand and Gordon’s Bay

Places people mix up
Strand, Gordon’s Bay, Macassar, Lwandle and Nomzamo are not Somerset West suburbs. They are separate Helderberg towns and townships and they get lumped together constantly. We cover all of them — but Strand and Gordon’s Bay are coastal and Somerset West largely is not, and that changes which hardware belongs on the window.

Suburbs and neighbourhoods

Helderberg Blinds – FAQs
Is Somerset West coastal for the purposes of choosing a blind?
Mostly not. Somerset West sits far enough back that ordinary hardware and real timber are fine. Strand and Gordon’s Bay are a different matter and should be specified as coastal.
My estate has rules about what the windows look like from outside. Is that a problem?
No, as long as we know before the blind is made. Most guidelines require a white or neutral external face, which we can supply with any colour you like on the inside. Bring the wording to the measure.
Does the wind off the pass damage blinds?
Only where a blind is left hanging free in an open window. Side channels hold the fabric at both edges and stop the movement that eventually pulls a bracket loose.
Do you charge travel to the Helderberg?
